West Guelph
Living in The Junction, Guelph
Also known as: Guelph Junction
A west-central neighbourhood shaped by the meeting of historic railways, with older homes, former industrial land, creeks and local businesses.
The Junction takes its name from the meeting of the Grand Trunk Railway and the Galt and Guelph Railway. Rail and industrial activity shaped the neighbourhood's early growth, producing a mix of workers' housing, commercial properties, employment lands and infrastructure that remains visible today.
The area is now a varied west-central district rather than a uniform residential subdivision. Older homes, cottages, small apartment properties, businesses, former industrial sites and newer redevelopment sit alongside Howitt Creek and Silver Creek.
Approximate location
Guelph Heritage describes the historic Junction as west of Edinburgh Road, south of London Road, north of Waterloo Avenue and extending toward Silvercreek Parkway, the former city limit.
Housing and streetscape
Housing includes older detached and semi-detached homes, workers' cottages, duplexes, small multi-unit buildings and selective infill. Some residential streets sit close to commercial, rail or former industrial properties, so the immediate surroundings matter.
Parks, trails and landmarks
Howitt Park includes a ball diamond, play equipment and a community garden. Howitt Creek, Silver Creek and the Silvercreek Trail create green and active-transportation connections through the wider area.
Access and everyday amenities
Edinburgh Road, Paisley Road, Waterloo Avenue, Silvercreek Parkway and the Hanlon Expressway connect the neighbourhood with downtown, west Guelph and the south end.
