Two Rivers is a present-day community area in central-east Guelph, named for the meeting of the Speed and Eramosa river systems. It includes residential streets, community spaces, former industrial lands and natural corridors. Much of historic St. Patrick's Ward falls within or overlaps this broader area, but the two names serve different purposes: The Ward describes a historic identity, while Two Rivers is a modern neighbourhood-group area.
The neighbourhood's housing and streetscape change quickly across short distances. Older cottages, detached homes, apartments, townhouses and new development can all be found near river valleys, rail lines and employment lands.
Approximate location
Two Rivers lies east and southeast of downtown along the Speed and Eramosa rivers. It extends through the Ontario Street, York Road and Huron Street area toward Victoria Road South, with community boundaries broader than the historic Ward.
Housing and streetscape
Housing includes older detached and semi-detached homes, workers' cottages, small multi-unit properties, townhouses, apartments and newer infill. Former industrial sites have created opportunities for adaptive reuse and redevelopment.
Parks, trails and landmarks
The Eramosa River Trail is a defining feature. Eramosa River Park, Heritage Park, Lyon Park and community gardening or food-forest projects provide recreation and access to the river corridor.
Access and everyday amenities
York Road, Victoria Road South and Elizabeth Street provide major connections. The river trails offer walking and cycling routes toward downtown and south Guelph.
