An established central neighbourhood immediately north and northwest of downtown, organized around one of Guelph's best-known community parks.
Exhibition Park combines a large, active community park with an established residential district immediately north and northwest of downtown. The neighbourhood grew as Guelph expanded beyond its earlier city boundary at London Road, and its name reflects the park's original use for agricultural exhibitions.
Today, the area is recognized for older houses, mature trees and a residential streetscape that remains closely connected to the city centre. The park is a defining landmark, but the neighbourhood also benefits from nearby commercial streets, schools, the Spurline corridor and a relatively direct route into downtown.
Approximate location
The neighbourhood surrounds Exhibition Park at 81 London Road West and extends across the residential streets north and northwest of downtown. London Road, Woolwich Street, Edinburgh Road North and the central rail and trail corridors are useful orientation points, although the exact neighbourhood-group boundary is broader than the park itself.
Housing and streetscape
The housing stock includes late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century detached houses, brick homes, modest cottages and larger character properties. There are also duplexes, small apartment buildings and selective infill. Lot sizes, architectural detail and renovation levels vary substantially, even on the same street.
Parks, trails and landmarks
Exhibition Park includes trails, sports fields, baseball diamonds, tennis and pickleball courts, play equipment, a wading pool, seasonal skating and the Exhibition Park Arena. The CNR Spurline Trail provides a walking and cycling connection toward downtown and the north-central city.
Access and everyday amenities
The neighbourhood is close to downtown without being inside the commercial core. Woolwich Street, London Road and Edinburgh Road provide city-wide connections, while nearby trails support walking and cycling trips.
